What's a pood anyway?

What's a pood anyway?

“We gotta do 1 kood, whatever that means.”- Anonymous. 10/18/2014

So, I know you all want to know what great amazing things happened on Saturday at the Festivus Games Feats of Strength Competition that 11 of your swole-mates participated in. And I’ll get to that. But first, let’s discuss the above quote from Saturday. A POOD, with the /p/ sound at the beginning, is a unit of measurement. It’s an old Russian measurement. 1 pood is roughly 36 pounds, or the equivalent of our yellow banded Kettlebells at the box. At our gym, we typically refer to our Kettlebells in pounds because they are American made Bells and we don’t generally refer to the weight of things in poods in America, well, some of you do, you know who you are. So, how many poods do you weigh?

On to Saturday’s update show.
Here are some highlights as seen through my eyes.
Julie P. - 215 Deadlift- PR!
Kasey- 6:59 2K row- PR!- Men’s Intermediate
Chad- 4th place on the burpee WOD and 5th place overall Men’s Novice
Kyle- 7:00 2K row- PR! And 2nd place overall Men’s Novice
Keri- 175 DL- PR!
Chris-Killed the burpee WOD with 142 reps- Men’s Intermediate
Tara- 185 DL- PR!- third place on the burpee WOD!
Amanda-Top 5 finisher- women’s novice!
Tierney- 175 DL- PR!
Hannah- 175 DL- PR!
Maria- 225 DL- PR!
So, there you have it. Be sure to give these folks a high five when you see them. Not because of all that weight they lifted off the ground, but because they took a step out of their comfort zone and put themselves in front of 120 other athletes in Central New York to test their fitness. Now that, takes guts. Well done, Love, your coaches.

Now for today’s pood, I mean WOD.
