We All Need A Hero...

As many of you know, I first started doing CrossFit when I decided to join the military. If you remember my post about one of my first ever CrossFit WODs you will recall that it was a Hero WOD. I know that we have done several of these at 7VCF but we have never really explained why these specific workouts are called that or why they are so darn tough.

Since day one CrossFit has embraced our men and women in uniform and they have chosen to honor the Heros who gave their lives in order to keep us and our country safe. These physically and mentally demanding WODS are designed a certain way in order to push people near their breaking point. You must hit these WODs hard and when the going gets tough, when you think that you can't move another inch or complete another rep, think about why that particular workout even has a name in the first place. The first Hero WOD that we will be completing this week is called Brenton.

"Field Training Officer Timothy Quinn Brenton, 39, of the Seattle Police Department, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting while on duty on October 31, 2009. He is survived by his wife Lisa, his son Quinn, and daughter Kayliegh." - CrossFit Main site.

He was born and raised in Washington state and upon graduating High School he decided to enlist into the U.S. Army. He was a Veteran of the Gulf War and he was even in Berlin the night that the Berlin Wall came down! He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Think about him today as you complete your bear crawls. I am sure that he had his face in the mud at least once or twice during his many adventures. I don't tell all of you these things in order to bring you down, I just want you to be aware.

Before I sign off I want to say thank you to all of you that dressed up for our Halloween festivities on Friday! I had a great time checking out everybody's costumes. Keep in mind that our Jackie Who? Competition is a mere 19 days away! Keep up the hard work and remember that consistency is key. See you at the box!
