I challenge you to not look at the WOD today. In fact, I’m
going to hit ENTER a bunch of times so that you can read this article and still
not see it, unless you purposely do, but then you’ll lose the challenge.
Why? Well, because the second we see what our task is that
lay ahead of us, our mind starts doing awful things. As you typed in the web
address for our site you were probably thinking, “I love CrossFit and
everything about it and I can’t wait to get there tomorrow!” But if you read
the WOD, you may start thinking “Well, I actually should get my haircut today
instead. And the kids did need to go shopping for new shoes. And I really don’t
have time to shower again today after I work out. Or, it’s just so cold in that
box without a running water”.
For Crossfit to truly work its magic, you have to free your
mind of the excuses and give yourself to whatever it may bring to you,
especially if it is a weakness. You’ll never conquer those double unders if you
avoid every WOD that they are in. So, you get a poor score for the day, who
cares, really? Hold your head up high and say, “yea, I suck at double unders
right now, but I’ll still try”. Own it, just like you’d own your hard work and
your successes. It’s not about who can be the best. It’s about bettering
yourself, one day at a time. Today you may not have DOUBLES, nor tomorrow, but
eventually you will, after enough whippings. Everyone has that one thing, or 2
things, or long list of things that trouble them. So don’t avoid the WOD when
it’s something that will highlight your weakness, don’t make up excuses.
Just try it.
After a while, you’ll make it your strength.
