SITUPS!

SIX PACK HERE I COME!

Situps? You want to do them to get rid of some belly flab? Well, I hate to break it to you but it doesn’t work like that. Sure, situps will help you build strength and stability in your mid-section. So, under your layer of fat cells you do have a six pack. But, you can’t spot reduce fat. You know, you can’t “whittle your middle” or take on a “battle of the bulge” or “chisel your core” or “blast the bulge” or “banish the belly” or “flab to abs in 4 weeks” or anything you read on the cover of a magazine.
Typically our bellies are where we store excess energy or calories, in the form of fat cells. To put it simply, if you don’t use the calories you take in, they don’t just disappear, they get stored somewhere. Where your excess gets stored can vary based on your gender, age and body-type. I wish mine would get stored in a certain spot (somewhere above my belly but below my collar bones) but unfortunately I can’t choose where it goes. Same goes for burning it off, you can’t choose where it gets burned off from. The excess meat on your bones gets used up fairly proportionally when you burn calories.
So, okay Dana, “How do I get rid of my belly fat then if situps wont’ work?” Well, I know you don’t want to hear it, but I’ll say it anyway because until science proves otherwise, this is the standing truth about how to lose weight.
