SHAVE THOSE HANDS!
For those of you that do not have a callous shaver yet, you should look into getting one. Some people grab a pumice stone meant for pedicures but I prefer the types of ones that look like a little handheld cheese grater. If you have ever seen Ben or Dana shaving their hands at the box ask them, "HEY! Is that yours? If not then just put it back where you found it please." I would appreciate that. For some reason I can never find mine....
The purpose of a callous shaver is obviously to shave down your callouses. It is important to do this because if you do not then your callouses will keep on getting bigger and bigger. Like the old Japanese proverb states, "the nail that sticks out gets hammered." If you have a few huge buildups on your hands then you are actually more likely to have a nasty rip. You can shave those suckers down and keep the surface of your hands even, smooth and tough at the same time. You can find these little bad boys at places like CVS or Wal-Mart.
The reason why I want you to shave is so that you can be ready for another day of hanging on the bar. Today we will be practicing the kipping pullup during the skill portion and you need to be ready. We will spend very little time on the HSPU during the skill portion so I found this nice little video for you all to watch. Don't worry, we do not expect you guys to do these freestanding.
Lastly if you happen to see our Athlete of the Month, Chelsea Brennan make sure that you congratulate her on getting a full time teaching job at Union Springs! Way to go girl, we are so glad that you do not have to move away from us!
3 Rounds for time
15 Pull Ups
9 Handstand Push Ups
*for scaling options today there will be no bands on the pullup rig and only strict press is allowed for scaling the HSPU. You will use a barbell to scale either or both of these movements.*
