I am bacon. And so can you.

Chad very generously brought some nitrate-free bacon to the Labor Day WOD BBQ last week. All I did was throw it in the pan to crisp it up to take out the limp sogginess that raw bacon is, out of it. I didn’t even have to put it on a fancy serving plate, just good ‘ol paper towels and it was eaten in a matter of…minutes. But that’s because nobody knew I put it out. Once the announcement was made, it was scooped up in seconds. So the lesson here is, if you’re ever unsure of what to bring to a dish to pass party with crossfitters, go with the default, bacon.
So, what’s the big deal with bacon? Here’s my $.02:
1. Bacon makes vegetables taste better. Try eating a raw Brussel sprout. It tastes like dry cabbage now doesn’t it? Next, try eating a Brussel sprout that was sautéed in bacon grease. Tastes like a party of glittery unicorns dancing on your taste buds.
2. Bacon is so versatile. One of my favorite things to do with bacon is wrap stuff up in it. The best things to wrap are: scallops, avocados and dates. Mmm, sometimes I wish I could wrap myself up in bacon…wait, that’s getting borderline creepy.
3. It’s easy to prepare. You don’t need any fancy spices, utensils or instructions to get that delicious meat candy into your mouth. I like to throw it right in the pan but I know others will spend time baking it, broiling it or even microwaving it! I’ve tried grilling it, but the flames…. I would not recommend that.
Leave a quick message below about your favorite way to ingest bacon. I know Mike and I both love bacon/chocolate chip paleo cookies…hint, hint…
Because I think you deserve a little more Colbert in your life, I’m going to lead you to this old clip that’s still as great as it was originally…
