It might not feel like it with all this rain, but summer is definitely just around the corner. Yesterday we talked about nutrition and the Paleo diet that is highly recommended for CrossFit athletes. But what about in the summer? The ice cream stands, the cold beers by the pool, all the summer bbq's and celebrations...how are you supposed to stick to an actual diet?!
Eating right is definitely more difficult during the fun-loving summer months, but it's not impossible. Here's some tips on how to stick with your plan during the summer:
1) Keep on food prepping!! We talk about food prep all the time and how it can make or break a diet attempt. Even if (for you teachers at least) you don't have a work week to worry about, you should still take the weekends to prep meals and snacks. You're most likely going to want to snack more (I always do when I'm home for the summer), so make sure you have quick healthy snacks on hand.
2) Recruit friends and family to join you. This isn't an exclusive tip to summer time; it's SO much easier to stick to the paleo lifestyle when you have someone to do it with you. Food prepping can turn into fun bonding sessions, and you're guaranteed to connect over beating food cravings.
3) Use the summer to your advantage! Summer is big on bbq's, so why not get grilling?! Here's a list of some paleo-friendly grill recipes.
4) Treat yo-self! I know this goes against everything I've been saying, but sometimes you just need to treat yourself. If you try to go ALL summer without hitting Footie's Freeze or having a few cold ones on a hot day, then you're never going to want to do paleo again. Once in a while it's OK to cheat, as long as you don't go on day-long binges of cheat meals.
